James Nathan Reed Scholarship
Purpose: The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships to graduates of the Green Ridge R-VIII High School to pursue advanced education and training to allow them to be productive and successful citizens. James Nathan Reed was born in 1919 near Green Ridge, Missouri and was the Vice President of the Green Ridge R-VIII school board when he passed away in 1962. He was active in serving the community and promoting access to the best education possible. His four sons established this fund to honor his contributions to agriculture, the Green Ridge Community, their education, and their success.
Criteria: The recipient of this scholarship must be enrolled in a two- or four-year institution, community college, university, trade school, or to pursue advanced education or training in agriculture, education, or other fields of higher education. The recipient shall be of good moral character. The recipient shall be selected based on community service (school, city, county, state, or nationally), financial need, and academic ability. Academic ability shall include a minimum of a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The recipient shall remain a full-time student during receipt of the scholarship. A current transcript must be included with the application.
Guidelines: Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis and disbursed by semester. Recipients must provide an official transcript at the end of each semester certifying the hours of credit taken and the GPA maintained.
Amount: A minimum of $1,000.00 per academic year ($500 per semester). Larger amounts may be available in some academic years. The checks will be made co-payable to the recipient and the school where the recipient is enrolled and will be sent directly to the educational institution.
Renewal: Recipients are encouraged to apply for the scholarship each year. It is not automatically renewable.
Deadline: April 15th of each year. The Foundation will be responsible for notifying applicants as to their award or denial of the scholarship.
