Ways to Help Those Affected by the California Wildfires

Ways to Help Those Affected by the California Wildfires

As three wildfires burned across the state of California, many lost their lives and thousands of people were evacuated from their homes. Shaping up to be one of California’s worst years for wildfires in recent years, strong winds and dry air created difficulty for firefighters to contain the fires.

For those looking to support communities affected by the wildfires, several community foundations in California have established relief funds.

Ventura County Community Foundation
Hill Fire and Woolsey Fire Sudden and Urgent Needs Effort Fund
Reeling from a season of many wildfires, Ventura County Community Foundation has set up this fund to collect donations to support the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires.

North Valley Community Foundation
Camp Fire Evacuation Relief Fund
This fund supports the needs of the evacuation centers who support those who have been evacuated from their homes. Once immediate needs are met, the fund will support long-term recovery efforts.

California Community Foundation
Wildfire Relief Fund
Opened in 2003, the Wildfire Relief Fund supports relief and recovery efforts in the aftermath of wildfires in California.

According to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, cash donations are recommended when supporting disaster relief as this allows local agencies to direct funds to the greatest areas of need.

The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation can help donors grant from their donor-advised funds to organizations helping with wildfire relief.
