Supporting Hurricane Dorian Relief Efforts

Supporting Hurricane Dorian Relief Efforts

Hurricane Dorian has wreaked havoc throughout the Bahamas and along the east coast of the United States, causing extensive flooding, knocking out power for hundreds of thousands, and even claiming several lives. The full extent of the damage is still undetermined as relief workers make their way to the hardest-hit areas.

A number of community foundations and organizations have compiled resources for donors wishing to support the affected communities.

The Community Foundation Public Awareness Initiative has compiled a list of several community foundations and organizations providing support in the wake of Hurricane Dorian. This page will be updated to reflect new resources as they become known.

The Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties has established the Bahamas Disaster Relief Fund. Generous donors will match the first $100,00 in donations, and funds will be used to provide assistance for emergency food, shelter and other basic needs.

The Center for Disaster Philanthropy has established the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season Recovery Fund. As an expert in disaster relief, the Center for Disaster Philanthropy will support long-term recovery efforts by investing in vulnerable populations, helping to foster partnerships among relief organizations and to fill any gaps where public funding is unavailable.

The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation can help donors grant from their charitable funds to organizations helping with recovery efforts. If you are looking for more information about charities in your community that are focused on helping those affected by the storm, contact Donor Services at service@growyourgiving.org or 816.842.7444.
