The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation’s Nonprofit Search has been a valuable tool for local nonprofits and donors since its launch in 2003. GuideStar powers the software platform, and the Community Foundation works with local organizations to maintain their individual profiles.
In order to deliver the most up-to-date information available, on April 1, GuideStar will update Nonprofit Search to a GuideStar Local Nonprofit Directory.
What This Means for Donors
This new searchable database will mirror data currently available through GuideStar’s professional-level subscriptions. The Community Foundation will no longer issue Reviewed or Declined to Update icons. Instead, nonprofits will receive nationally recognized GuideStar seals of Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum.
What This Means for Nonprofit Organizations
- Links to organizations’ GuideStar profiles will still be available on our website for donors, volunteers, Community Foundation staff and other local funders to view.
- Organizations will update their GuideStar profiles by logging in to GuideStar’s website. Additionally, information from the IRS Form 990 will automatically populate on their profile.
- Organizations will no longer maintain a separate Nonprofit Search profile with the Community Foundation.
- Local funders will no longer require Nonprofit Search profiles for grant applications.
